As tempting as it is to carry your parrot on your shoulder like a pirate, your bird needs a private sanctuary. A large cage is perfect for this, so they have some room to walk or fly around.

To help you home your pretty parrot, we’ve hunted down the best parrot-friendly cages on the market.

The best parrot cages available right now are:

Features To Look for in a Parrot Cage

There are a few things to look for in a parrot cage that are quite obvious—but we’ll run through them quickly just in case.

  • Size: Go as large as possible unless your bird is elderly, disabled or otherwise inactive.
  • Portability: Wheels are excellent so you can move your parrot from room to room, as they’re very social birds.
  • Large doors: If you want your bird to be able to fly in and out of the cage on their own then large doors are a must.

Reviews of the Best Parrot Cages

Our Thoughts:

The first cage is a two-story one so your bird has lots of room to venture around and play. Each section is large enough for them to fly from ground to shelf, and there’s the fun bonus of three walkways, too. This will not only let your parrot get exercise, but get enjoyment out of being in the cage.

It’s a cage recommend for gritters that crawl but it’s wonderful for a large bird, too, especially a playful one.

On the other hand, you turn this two-story into a one-story cage if your bird would prefer that. Some users did this and found the cage excellent for housing parrots, indoors and out.

It’s highly portable too so if you hate being without your pet, simply wheel the cage into another room.

Although it may be easy to deal with once assembled, users note that when it arrives, it’s a nightmare to put together. They also note that before it’s assembled that it feels flimsy, but once put together it’s as solid as a rock.

Pros:

  • Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
  • Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
  • Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.

Cons:

  • Difficult to assemble.

Our Thoughts:

If you want something in the style of the cage above but without having to reorganize, here’s one that may suit you. It’s lighter than our top pick, too, making it more mobile.

This cage is intended for parakeets and similar birds, so your parrot will do just fine in there. It comes with four cups and three perches, with all materials thoroughly non-toxic and safe for your pets.

Users have made wonderful use of this cage as there’s plenty of room to place toys and ladders and mirrors. Two cockatiels fit nicely with the abundance of play items. Some users refer to the cage as a “haven” for their birds, describing the cage as huge and beautiful.

Now, for the bad. Some users report that two of the food trays weren’t fantastically functional, plus, it was difficult to assemble the cage. You’ll need some serious patience and perhaps some additional food trays, but once done then you should have no problems with your new parrot paradise.

Pros:

  • Fantastically spacious for birds and their gear.
  • Portable.
  • Quite light for a cage of this size.

Cons:

  • Difficult to assemble.
  • Half of the food trays are low-quality.

Our Thoughts:

Another cage made exclusively for birds, this one also comes with perches and feeders, except customers have no complaints about the feeders this time.

What makes this cage stand out from the one above is the doors, however. They’re designed to let the bird fly in and out freely if you allow it to. This gives your parrot lots of freedom around its room.

If you ever need to get your parrot out of the room the cage is equipped with wheels on the bottom, ensuring its portability. This and its robust build make it a prime cage for use in any room or outdoor space.

Moving it outside would be a smart idea when cleaning it, according to customers. Although the tray pulls out, it will easily cause droppings and seed shells to end up on the floor based on its layout.

That’s not the only irritating aspect of its constructions. Users report that the bars aren’t evenly spaced—so if your bird is a climber, it might have some dangers and difficulties with this. Avoid it if your bird is prone to this behavior.

Not only that, but the bar spacing is quite wide. If your parrot is very small or young they’ll be able to fit through the bars—budgies and parakeets can.

Pros:

  • Highly portable.
  • Two large doors for parrot freedom.
  • Slide-out tray for easy daily cleaning.

Cons:

  • Messy tray design.
  • The bars aren’t great.

Our Thoughts:

A parrot page this may be, but it’s not particularly large. We wouldn’t recommend this cage for a bird that likes to fly, climb and play. Instead, we propose it as a home for an elderly or disabled bird who’ll swing and sit, but not much else.

For that purpose the cage is excellent. It’s large enoug for you to reach in and take your bird out. Yet, it’s also small enough to carry from room to room if you want to keep your old birdie with you most of the day. It’s quite light, so transportation is no trouble.

Try not to bump or scratch the cage on anything though as you may damage the finish. It’s a cheap metallic paint that flakes off easily according to customers. Sometimes it even flakes when you’re changing the food or water. If your bird likes to nibble on the bars, then steer clear of this because birdie could get a horrible shock when chewing!

Pros:

  • Great for lethargic birds.
  • Easy to move.
  • Light for its size.

Cons:

  • Not big enough for younger birds.
  • Cheap paint and bars.
